The auto setting used on model 48730 automatically adjusts the heat setting relevant to the time selected. For example if a short time is set (4 hours)
= high, (6-8 hours) = medium and the longer time (8-12 hours) = low temperature setting.
If your iron is fitted with the auto shut-off function, it will automatically shut down after a set period. To reactivate the iron, gently shake it, the temperature indicator light will come on, indicating the iron is warming up. Wait for the iron to heat up as normal.

It is normal for some types of bread to cook unevenly. In order to achieve uniform browning, we recommend you wait a minimum of 30 seconds between each toasting, so that the control can be automatically reset.
This is simply scale deposit caused by minerals etc. in your water. If you purchase a descaler such as 'Descale Magic' from your local supermarket, the issue will resolve itself immediately. This occasional internal clean is simply part of the maintenance required and is not a warranty issue.
